Cathcart-Jones And Waller. CHECK AT ALLAHABAD. ENGINE TROUBLE THE CAUSE. ♦ (A. and N.Z. Catsle). ALLAHABAD, Oct. 30. Flight-Lieut. 0. Cathcart-Jones and Mr. K. Waller, who are flying back to England after competing in the air race, arrived at Allahabad yesterday afternoon and stayed .the night there. The, airmen took oil for Karachi at 5.45 a.m. to-day, but returned after 10 minutes owing to engine trouble. They left again at 1.45 p.m. Speed records less than a week old have been swept away in their return flight. The fliers accomplished the journey to Charleville from Melbourne in 50 minutes’ less time than that occupied by the recordbreaking winners of the Centenary air race, Messrs. Scott and Campbell Black. A further two and a half hours was gained on the winners’ performances during the Charleville-Darwin stage, and the Melbourne-Darwin flight took less than 23. hours. On the next stage, to Singapore, they flew the 2084 miles in 10 hours 20 minutes, making Singapore from Melbourne in 34£ hours.
