OUT OF RACE.
HEWETT AND KAY UNLUCKY. "BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED." (A. ana N.Z. Cable). CONCURRY, Oct. 30. Further details of the accident to the aeroplane in which SquadronLeader J. D. Hewett and Messrs. C. E. Kay and F. Stewart are competing in the air race, show that tho chief pilot had taxied to the end of the aerodrome and was turning to enter the runway for the take-off for Charleville when the port wing struck a fence. The time taken in repairs will bo counted as flying time, as the fliers had “checked out” when the accident pccurred. They are now believed to have no chance in the handicap event. Mrs. J.* D. Hewett received tho following cablegram yesterday morning from her husband, SquadronLeader J. D. Hewett: “Bitterly disappointed. Held up for repairs.”
