Gold Miner Killed.
STRUCK BY FALL OF ROCK. WAIHI MINE ACCIDENT. (Special to mar). WAIHI, Oct. 30. Fatal injuries were received by Mr. William Mair, aged 23, single, while he was engaged in mining operations in the underground workings of the Waihi mine yesterday afternoon. Mr. Mair, with Mr. T. Bright, had been trucking in the intermediate block just below No. 11 level. Ho entered the pass to see,, if there was any more quartz to send up, when a fall of rock occurred, striking him about the head and body. He was killed instantaneously. This is the first fatal accident that has taken place in the Waihi mine for seven or eight years.
