Winooka In U.S.A.
NEXT YEAR’S PROGRAMME. WHAT MR. NAYLOR SAYS. UNEMPLOYMENT-AFFECTS SPORT (By Telegraph—tress Association). AUCKLAND, Dec., 1. Messrs. M. Poison, E. Britt and R. T. Naylor, trainer, jockey and manager of the racehorse Winooka, passed through Auckland by the Mariposa returning to Sydney. They declared their intention of going back to the United States perhaps in February, and racing Winooka there in April and May, then probably taking him to England to race.
Meanwhile, Winooka remains in America. They said he had four wins in seven races, won £2750, and but for the high exchange rate the trip would have been profitable. Mr. Naylor emphatically said it was useless to take any but firstclass horses to America, where thero were some great horses. Equipoise, he said, was “a horse and a half,” and the equal of Phar Lap.
Mr. Naylor also said that racing in the United States was in a bad way. There was a tremendous amount of unemployment, many people simply were unable to pay the admission charge, and free tickets could be had for the asking,
