CHALLENGE ABANDONED.

The Hauraki Plains Rugby Union held its usual weekly meeting on Thursday evening, the president, Mr H. P. Evans, being in the chair and presiding over Messrs R. Rowling, J. Lyes, W. Williams, C. Molloy, H. •Sparrow, G. McCowatt, and the secretary, Mr P. Foster. Tenders for Buses to Thames.

Two tenders were received for carrying the senior and junior teams to Thames on July 25. After discussion, it was decided that one bus be engaged from G. Connell and the other from J. Nicholson, these being the two tenderers. Birch Cup Challenge. This matter had been mentioned fit previous meetings, and held over, ] (ending some idea of the expenses being obtained. This was now to hand, and after discussion the matter was dropped, it being considered the Union was not in a strong enough financial position to take on the trip. Accounts. Several accounts from players who claimed expenses incurred in connecting up with the bus when taking part in rep. games, were passed for payment. Team for Saturday. The Plains reps, to play Paeroa, at Paeroa this Saturday, are:— Fullback: J. Marshall. Three-quarters: Murray, Donaghy, Foote. Five-eighths: Costello, W. Marshall. Half: N. Marshall. Rover: Riddell. Forwards: Martin, McMahon, Howard, Madgwick, Tomlinson, McDull. Dimock.

Emergencies: Hill, Clark, O'Car roll.
