ADDRESSING ELECTORS.
MR, CLINKARD AT ROTORUA, HIS ATTITUDE DEFENDED. Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P., and the Hon. W. A. Veitch addressed a meeting of electors last night. The Mayor, Mr. T, Jackson, presided over a fair attendance and introduced the speakers, Mr, Clinkard gave an account-of his stewardship, stressing the facts that the United Party was not disunited and that its policy had been maintained despite the stonewalling by Reform, and defended his attitude with regard to the Rotorua-Taupo railway. He read a communication from Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager, with regard to works for unemployment relief at Papatoetoe, Papakura, Frankton, Horotiu, Mercer and the duplication at Huntly. £586,000 had been spent for rolling stock during the current year and two complete trains, entirely new rolling- sfbck, pi-ovided for the Rotorua services with tlie' first observation cars to be run in any regular service in New Zealand.
The Hon. W. A. Veitch eulogised Mr. Clinkard's work. He had come to tlie difficult problem of Mamaku Hill, and although not ideal he thought he had' made arrangements that would bo satisfactory, including an improved road. A of thanks and confidence was accorded Mr, Clinkard.
