OBITUARY.

SIR JOHN FINDLAY.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLING JON, Dec 9. Private advice has been received in Wellington to-day of_the death in England .jcr Sir John Findlay.

Hon. Sir John George Findlay, K.0.M.G., K.C., Wellington. Born Dunedin 1862, of Geo. Alex. Findla)'; married 1899, Josephine Emily, daughter of •> as. Arkle ;two sons. Educated Scott’s Academy, Hokitika, and Otago University; Lfj.B. 188(5; LL.D. 1893; admitted to bar 1887; in partnership with F. G. Dalziell practised at Palmerston Southj ,1894 lecturer in political science Otago University; removed to Wellington land entered into partnership with Sir Robert Stout; on latter’s appointment as Chief Justice .again took F. G. Dalziell into partnership, and subsequently D. M. Findlay (p.v.); on death of Hon. A. Pitt accepted portfolios of AttorneyGeneral and Colonial Secretary in Ward Ministry 1906-11; a representative with Prime Minister at Imperial Conference 1911; for Hawke’s Bay 1916-19; K.C. 1907: some time member Victoria College Council. MR. C. J. BROOK. The death occurred last evening at his home in Parnell of Mr. Charles John Brook, father of Mr. A. A. Brook, of TapuJ The late Mr. C-. J. Brook was 87 at the time of his death and had played a very prominent part in the affairs of Parnell. Coming out from London, where he was born, at the age of 25, he settled in Parnell and resided there in St. Stephen’s Avenue until his death, tie was a very ardent worker in the cause of the Anglican Church, and for many years was a member of the Vestry and People’s Warden.i of St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. He served for a time on the old Parnell Borough Council, and was at one time engineer to the Awhitu Road Board. Prominent in Masonic circles, lie passed through the chairs of Remuera Lodge. He is survived .by his widow who is 83 years of age, two sons, Messr. A. A. Brook, of Tanu, and H. H. /Brook, of Epsom, and four daughters, Mesdames A. Lee (Awhitu), H. R. Maxwell (Manurewa), \ Colin Munro (Parnell), and Misk K: Brok (Parnell). )’
