A Chicago message states that Jack Cope, veteran creator of the new record for "a delayed drop, going to a 15,000 feet altitude, stepped off tljo ’plane and dropped 13,000 feet before he released his parachute cord. The terrible strain almost wrecked the parachute but Cope managed to land safely.
