A CRUEL HOAX.
SOMETHING. FOR 1/-. MAN GOES TO GAOL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. On the charge of false pretences, Thomas Francis Coyne was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment by Mr Barton, S.M.
The charge arose out of an advertisement by the accused in the Evening Post, in which he stated that by sending a stamped addressed envelope and a postal note for l/-, inquirers would be told how to make £4 or £5 weekly at home. A number of men and women replied to this advertisement, and in return received a small card on which was written: “Do as I do—Advertise!”
