NEW ZEALAND TIMBER FIRST.
WELLINGTON. March 8. A letter of instruction has lieen forwarded by Siiv Joseph Ward to all departments that New Zealand timber is to be used so far as is possible for departmental purposes. The preparation, of a uniform grading and classification scheme lias been completed and will be put into operation forthwith by the millers, who have undertaken to supply the departments with timber cut true to grade and sizes and properly seasoned. The scheme closely follows the practice adopted in other countries, notably the United States and Canada, which has been so successful in buliding up local and export markets.
