A STATE LOTTERY.
FOR HOSPITAL SUPPORT.
TAURANGA, March 8. At its meeting on Thursday the Tauranga Hospital Board, acting on the representation fo Mr B. C. Robbins, decided to submit a remit to the general conference of the Hospital Boards’ Association at Palmerston North on March 12 to the effect that the State authorise a State lottery, 'the proceeds to be devoted to the upkeep of hospital and charitable institutions. Mr Robbins pointed out that Queensland and other States were now devoting money obtained from lotteries towards hospital costs. Much money was going out of New Zealand for sweeps. The question w,as a big one, and he would like to see tlie conference discuss it and reach a decision. He did not believe in gambling, but the gambling was now going on. THE FIFTH TEST.
