ELECTRICAL DISTURBANCE
DAMAGE AT NEW PLYMOUTH
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 24.
A heavy squall of wind, accompanied by lightning, was responsible for a startling disturbance in the town last night. A .shed was blown bodily across Molesworth Street and scattered about the residence of Mr. Bocock. A mass of light wires was blown down in front of Mr. Bocock's house, windows of which were blown in, glass being scattered across a room in which the i'amilv sat.
Noone was seriously, hurt, but members of the family were greatly startled.
The disturbance was purely local,‘although there was an electrical storm over the town, with heavy rain ;
FURTHER DAMAGE DONE,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 24.
In addition to .the damage already recorded, last night’s storm unroofed four out of eight shops in the course of erection in Devon Street for Mr Fair, of Feikling. The iron covering seems to have been sucked off by the wind, and the wooden rafters were smashed to matchwood.
Other shops escaped, but the double chimney of an adjoining boardinghouse was blown off and the roof damaged.
