COSTLY FLOUR. , (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, March 26. A prosecution under the Health Act for storing flour, not protecting it from vermin and dust, resulted in Charles , James Gordon, a baker, being fined £lO. The defendant bought a large , quantity of flour in July last, anticipating a rise. Portion of this was i stored adjacent to .the bakery, and the sacks were riddled with rats. Four: tons were condemned, and the remainder was sold as pig feed. A BAD METHOD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) "■>.' MARTON, March 26. An unusual case was head at the Hunterville Magistrate's Court when J. Klue, a butcher, sued A. P. Stewart, of Rata, for 24/- for meat supplied. It was proved the plaintiff consigned parcels of meat by rail from Hunterville, and that the guard put off the ' parcels at Rata, but though an official is continuously on duty at the latter station, no receipt is obtained, tor parcels delivered. The Magistrate held delivery was not proven, and non-suited the plaintiff, pointing out that the method was a bad one, with many possibilities of goods going astray. A JUDGE'S LENIENCY. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 26. At the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Blair sentenced Charles Herbert Jeffries (20) to two years' Borstal for carnal knowledge. Regarding John Jenkins, was found guilty of forgery and who had been ouf on licese, His Honour said' the prisoner was, ' owing to illness, more readily subject to temptation than an ordinary individual. He was going to take a risk with Jenkins, and, istead of imprisoning him, he would convict and order him to come up for sentence when -called upon within twelve months. This was in view of the fact that as the accused's license had been cancelled it was an indication to the Prisons Board that it was worth while giving him another trial. MANAGER'S LAPSE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) f ;. DUNEDIN, March 26. , At the Police Court, Hugh Wilsoif, factory manager,,pleaded guilty to the theft of £ll, the property of Hallensteiiv Bros. The police stated that the accused sold a number of suits- and failed to account for the money. He was admitted to probation for twelve months.
