When the wind blows in the direction it is to-day the fishermen say that flounder do not act the same as in other winds, but that better hauls of schnapper may be expected. Lots of things go floating down the gutters in Thames, but one citizen could hardly believe his eyes this morning when a bundle of notes went swirling past Jiis feet. Incredulously he retrieved them, and being an honest man, took them to the Police Station where they now await an owner. According to the Waipukurau Press the return to the old order of time is not yet as generally observed as might be exnected, in view of the convenience it has been alleged to cause. Children continue to rise earlier than the clock indicates as necessary, and in consequence a surprisingly large proportion would wend their way schoolwards shortly after eight o'clock rather than half an* hour later as was general. It is announced that "The Great White Train" project has been abandoned. Some time ago there was a proposal to run a train on the lines of a travelling exhibition of New Zealand manufactures only .through the North Island, stopping for varying periods at the various centres and towns, where those interested could inspect the New Zealand made goods on the payment of a small fee. If the experiment were crowned with success, the train, was to be extended to the South Island.- Owing to lack of sufficient support by the manufacturers, it has been decided not to proceed with the project. ing station 2FG Sydney last evening that Captain Lancaster and Mrs. Miller arrived at Brisbane in their aeroplane'Red Rose at 5.10 p.m. yesterday. Inqiries go to show that the launch "Larrikin" was moored in a dangerous position if a heavy sea rose, but she had been towed to safety.
