LIVES THROWN AWAY.
CORONER’S STRONG COMMENT. MID-STREET TRAMWAY POLES. SHOULD BE REMOVED. (Bv Telegraph. —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 29. "Tramway poles have no right to bo -in the centre of the road at all. Lives have been thrown away because of 'them. In my opinion, they should be removed,” said Mr Hunt, S.M., sitting, as Coroner at an inquest on the death of a tram conductor, who fell from the "back of the platform of his car on May 10th., and striking the centre pole sustained fatal injuries. The Coroner added that a red band should be put around every pole that ■had killed men, then people would realise they should be removed. Mr Mackay, representing the Tram--way Department, said they had a legal Tight to erect centre poles.
