“ Several cattle on Air. Kendall’s farm at Ivatikati recently came into contact with a live electric wire, and were killed. The Hon. Edward Newman, M.L.C., chairman of trustees of the New Zealand Sheep Owners’ Acknowledgment of Debt to British Seamen Fund, stated on Saturday in Palmerston North that the trustees are obtaining offers of land suitablo as a hostel and miniature farm site in connection with the scheme to establish a training centre for girls to ho brought out from England. He said the idea was, in conformity with the general principles of the fund, to bring out from England girls who are of British seamen who served in the war, and train them to become capable country girls. Ho said the girls would be trained not only in domestic work, but also to take an active part in .dairying, gardening, bee-farming, and similar rural pursuits.
