AN OPEN LETTER.

TO THE THAMES PUBLIC

Dear Sir, or Madam,— - It has long .been .felt that the need .exists in Thames for an Amateur •Theatrical Society, or some kindred .society. The difficulty of producing plays without forming a society lies in the fact that each play entails a substantial outlay, and the producers are dependent upon the result to recoup themselves. Adverse weather may result in the production .being a financial loss. It is hoped tlicit cit least 150 mem'bers will join such a society. It is ■suggested that the annual subscription •be 15/-, and each member will be entitled to one reserved 9eat for each ■production. If possible,' five productions will be staged each year. If the response is satisfactory, ar--rangements will be put in hand to book ■the theatre for the performances next year. Among the plays which will probably be staged next year are “Bluebeard’s Eighth Wife,” “The Thirteenth .Chair,” “Belinda,” and “Daddy LongLegs.” The formation of a society depends , entirely upon the measure of public support forthcoming. If you are interested in the project, you are cordially invited to attend a meeting to be held In Mackay Street Methodist schoolroom on Monday, 26th. inst., at 7.45 p.m. If you are unable to attend, but are willing to become a member of the society, will you kindly communicate with one of .the' undersigned as . early as possible. It is proposed that the proceeds from the productions be distributed among various charities, sports’ bodies, etc. It is hoped thus to give the public good value for their money, and at the same time, to use the profits for worthy objects. If you are sympathetically inclined towards the formation of such a society, will you come along to the meeting on 26th. .inst. C. J. GARLAND, P.O. Box 20, ’Phone 26. V. E. SANDERS, P.O. Box 36, ’Phone 46. A. E. L. DODD, 'Phone 314.
