ALLEGED GAMING.
RAID AT NAPIER (Press Association.)
NAPIER, April 23
The police yesterday afternoon conducted a raid with the object of “roping in” a person suspected of committing breaches of the Gaming Act. Nine men were arrested.
William Hutton, James Corless, Alfred Ernest Elwood, Henry James Robinson and James Samuel Golding were charged with being occupiers of premises kept as a common gaming house. Thomas Catto Paterson and John Albert Le Bas were charged with loitering in the street for the purpose of betting. Reginald Albert Orange was charged with assisting in the conduct of a common gaming house, and William Cum was charged with being found in a common gaming house. The accused appeared before the Magistrate, and were remanded till Monday next on bail.
