THE WHITE HORSE CUP. RODNEY BEATEN. (Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 26. The White Horse Cup hockey tournament was continued yesterday. A surprise was the defeat of the holders of the Cup (Rodney) by Whangarei. The game was even, but Rodney failed to score further through poor circle work. The Whangarei forwards played a good combination game, and were well supported by their rear division, who made some really good movements. Whangarei won by 2 goals to 1.
There was an even match between Mangawai-Albertland and Franklin, which was won by the former team by two goals to one. Mangawai proved too good for their opponents.
iPiako defeated the weakened Thames team by four goals to nil. The position of the teams is:—■ Piako, 5 points; Rodney, 4; Whangarei, 3; Mangawai-Albertland, 3; Franklin, 2; Thames, 1. For the Ladies’ Provincial Cup, Taumarunui “A,” by defeating Auckland, won section. “A” and Whangarei won section “B.”
