RUGBY.

WELLINGTON 30, SOUTHLAND 18 (Press Association.) i WELLINGTON, July 26. At Rugby yesterday Wellington defeated Southland by 30 to 18. The game commenced poorly, but later developed into a fast and open contest. Wellington proved vastly superior to the southerners in the ruck and in line-outs. Every one of their tries was the direct outcome of the work by the forwards, and only in one case did the backs cross the yisitors’ line. Southland had more weight than Wellington, and had the best of the scrums. The Wellington backs were weak. Wellington’s score consisted of eight tries, which three were converted; Southland, four tries, with three converted. OTHER RESULTS. (Press Association.) MASTERTON, July 26. Wairarapa defeated Marlborough by 22 to 6. PAHIATUA, July 26. . Horowhenua were defeated by the Bush Union by 6 to 5.
