A WELLINGTON FIRE.
HOTEL CECIL ABLAZE. (Press Association. > WELLINGTON, July 28. Shortly after midnight a tire broke out in the Hotel. Cecil, opposite the Lambton Railway Station. It appears to have started in the kitchen or pantry, and immediately spread to the dining-room, which was a mass of flames when the brigade arrived. After a struggle the tire was confined to this portion, the dining-room being destroyed, and those adjoining much damaged. Underneath were bedrooms,.which suffered from water. There was no confusion among the guests, but two firemen had narrow
escapes from injury. Tl*e damage is roughly estimated at £SOOO. The whole building and contents were insured in the Norwich Union.
Among those living in 'the hotel were several M.’s P., who were hurriedly called from the House to look after their families and belongings.
