CAPETOWN. Feb. 10. South Africa, in the first innings, made 295.. The weather was very hot, bur 15,000 people were present, a record for South Africa. . . Ward played an excellent innings, but in the early stages, Catterall was erratic: Both played delightful strokes. Ward played pluckilv. qnd made 'many fine hits. Nourse was solid, but gave a hard chance when six. „ The Englishmen stood the heat ot the day well, though, in the later , •'•'v'res. they were, run off their legs.
