THE CORRESPONDENCE.
(Press Association.") WELLINGTON, August 4. The correspondence that recently passed between the secretary of the Miners' Federation and the Goal Mine Owners' Association, has been released for publication. . -
On July 15 Mr. Arbuckle wrote to the mine owners stating that the Federation was prepared to discuss a settlement of the present dispute in the coal-mining industry on the basis of the present national agreement with the right;to discuss hours of work, but under no consideration would they consider districtagreements] either, through the Arbitration Court or otherwise. .
The Coal Mine Owners' Association replied, on August 2 regretting, the Federation's opposition to loccil agreements, and suggesting that a conference might be held to discuss the grounds upon which that opposition was based.
