LONDON, August 3. Rain overnight and during the made the ground sloppy, and the start of play was delayed. Makepeace and Hallows opened for Lancashire, and both were careful. Scoring was slow. Makepeace lost his wicket leg before to McDonald, when the total was 26. Hallows was caught and bowled by McDonald. He played a useful, but somewhat'lucky innings.
