WAR MEMORIAL.
OAMARU'S AVENUE.
PRAISED BY LORD JELLICOE
(Press Association.)
OAMARU, August 4
The Governor-General, accompanied by Lady Jellicoe and the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe, paid his first official visit to Oamaru last evening^ In the course of his reply to an address of welcome, Lord Jellicoe referred, in eulogistic language, to the memorial oaks that the town, and! country had planted along the highway in memory of the North Otago men who fell in the great war. Lord Jellicoe said that in all his travels he had not come across a more fitting form of memorial to the fallen. It was a living monument that would keep evergreen the memory Of the brave sons of this district who did their duty at the cost of their lives. '
