SALVATION ARMY.

SPECIAL CONGRESS. (From Our Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, August 2..,Between 60 and 70 Salvation Army officers have congregated in Auckland for a special congress. The sessions are being conducted 'by Commissioner and Mrs. Hodder, and almost every phase of Salvation Army warfare is being reviewed. Particular stress has been placed on the annual self-denial appeal, and the ever-growing demands upon this particular fund. The Commissioner showed by statistics and facts that- there never was a time when the Army more needed and the practical sympathy of the public. The accommodation of the 'children’s homes was taxed" to the utmost capacity, sheltering 500 nightly.

Encouraging references were also made to the spiritual work. The -rolls have increased more lately than during the last six years.
