The Rev. Mr Gray, of Dunedin, une of the deputation to the Government in connection with the 6 o'clock - closing movement, denounced the anti-shouting law as a streaming faro©. He siiid it had clone no good whatever. When the engineer's report was being discussed at tho County Council -meeting Cr. Claxton said he was of opinion Unit tho slips up the / Ivaraka should be cleared right out to the tide, and the engineer should be authorised to do this. Cr. McOonnick seconded the motion. Cr. Cooper said the Council had continued trouble with slips and would continue to have trouble if something w»a not done to prevent the land from slipping. He suggested that willows should be planted to hold the earth in various parts of the County. The motion of Cr. Claxton was carried.
