Next January the jubilee of Westland goldfields is to ibe celebrated at Hokitika, which is to be attended by. the Hon.: W. Fraser (Minister for. Mines). Mr J. Bray, engineer to the Ohnifcmuri County Council, has returned to Paeroa and resumed his duties after having enjoyed a holiday trip to Wellington. Captain Morrison, of Napier, is to take the'position of Area Group Officer in Palmerston North in place of Captain Robertson, who has been transferred to Timaru. Mr J. Watson (A. and G. Price, Ltd.), left by this morning's train for (Rjotorua. "Mr Watson, who is making a business trip, will probably return to Thames at the end of the week. Mr Albert J. 'L. General regret was expressed on Thames at the death at Te Aroha of Mr Geo. Lipsey, the first white man to settle in Te Aroha. Mr Lipsey, who was a native of County Leitrim, Ireland, was 67 at the time of his death. His wife was the daughter of the-Maori chief Mokena'B!ou, and there are 6 children of the marriage, 2 sons and i daughters-. Deceased was well konwn and highly esteemed throughout the Thames district.

Among the passengers passing through. Auckland to Sydney by the s.s. Marama from Vancouver' wereMr and Mrs Kennedy Runiford, who are to make a tour of Australasia lasting over until December next. The party consists of Mr and Mrs (Riumford" their three children, Mr Harold Craxton (the accompanist), Mr Roland Foster (the manager), a tutor, a gjoverness, and a maid. The tour of America (the first these singers have made) was most satisfactory, and Mme. Clara'"Butt's vo!ce was the object of much wonder. A; concert was given! at Honolulu on the way across the Pacific. Both Mr R!umford and his gjifted wife are glad to return to Australia and New Zealand, where they were so well received on their last tour. Since they were here they liive been to South Africa as well as America. The party went on to Sydney last evening, and after a lengthy -.Australian tour they will come over to New Zealand, and finally leave Wellington in December. It had been intended to return by way of India, t>ut the American tour jras so successful that they have decided to pay a return trip.
