NEWS AND NOTES. (Frotnl our Own. Correspondent.) WAIHI, July 27. Ai pleasing function took place in the Drill Hall when, Corporal AL Royeroft waa presented by the Rev. A. S. i'Buckland, chaplain of the local volunteer; companies, with a gold medial for the best record of attendance throughout the year. Tie medal, which was awarded for the purpose by the chaplain, was accompanied by a complimentary speech, and was fittingly acknowledged. At the Police Court Robert Jarvie wias oha/rged! with drunkenness. Constable Flavell detailed the incidents of the^ arrest, which took place at Waikino, and stated that accused was so h*Jpl|e«sly <lrunfe that he (the constable) had to procure assistance to pet the man away from the street There was no appearance of accused, who was fined 18b, with. 2s costs.
