Foreman of Works Report.

I The Foreman of Works (Mi* 'B. j ■Simmonds) reported as follows at the ■ last meeting, of tlie Borough G'oam- j cil:—"About 100' ft of the watertabie ; on the east side of 'Pollen street be- I tween Sealey and Richmond streets , has been repaired and in some parts 1 renewed. Also about 70ft on the south sidle )o<ii Sbaley street ifroni' Pblien street has been renewed where required- These water tables had to be 1 at once repaired to' pa-evert the foot- ■ paths breaking away, which they had connnfin'ced to 1 do. The carpenter and , one man 1 are now repairing- the water table on the north side of Grey street i ibbtween Pollen; and 'Maekay street? and when completed the water tables ' from* Grey to' vS'tealey street will be in * very good order and should require ' nothing further for some years. This j < culvert has been renewed with 13in , tile pipes', as I found sufficient covering at thisi corner to protect them, so substituted tile pipes for wood. Several of tfie. steps lending up Kedd'ell Streeb were broken a.way. These have been renewed and again made, safe for traffic The cart crossing: ou the ■sO'U.tlii side of Cochrane street ot Madkay street had given way. This liiis been repaired and made fit for use- I started the top dressing of the footpaths ea.rly hi. the week, but had to leaive it again on account of so miiith: wet, ibh.it- will go: on -withi this %york. again as soon- as the weather will permit- Three men have been constantly employed in attending; +o the drains and nil small repairs) attended! to. Re the road on the Karakn Creek I find the footpath, in a muddy state, apparently cut uip by horse iraffici. Albout 12 loads of gravel would put. this in. a passable state. :' Thy roadway wants filling up to take ■the hollow out of it. as the water from ■ the hills lays in this hollow, which 1 makes it impassible in wet weather-'■-Before filling in the road it would id require a. 12in tile drain 36ft long • to <Jarry the storm water from the i hills under tho formation- If tills I was dona it. would mrake a good road c" \ and last some time.
