FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
(Per Press A ssuciation—Copyright. SYDNEY, March 29, Sir William McMillun scored a. largo majority over the Protectionist candidate for Wentwortli. Out of. 29 seats the Freetraders are leading for 17, the Labor candidates leading for three seats. The fights for the seats in the Lower House resolved itself into one of Freetrade versus Protection. Mr Bruce Smith, a former member of Sir Henry Parke's administration, scored heavily over his Protectionist opponent for Hume.
The following .Protectionist and Ministerialists have been returned: — For Bland, Watson, Labor; Hunter, Hon. Mr Barton unopposed; GTwydir, Cruickshank; Richmond, Ewing; Riverina, Chanter, defeating Ashton, member of the State legislature. The t following Freetraders have been returned:—East Sydney, George Reid, majority 4040; North Sydney* Thorn son, Dalley, Wileys; Parramatta, Cook, Lang, McLean, Parkes; Sydney, Smith, a member of Reid's Cabinet; New England, Lonedale, Robertson, Willis; Barrier, Thomas, Independent Labor; Darling, Spencer Bruce Smith; West Sydney, Hughes, Labour; Wentwortli, Sir William McMillan; Illawarra, Fuller, defeating Alexander Hay; Newcastle, Gilbert. Macquarri*. • The Senate returns are a long way from being complete. So far the following are the leading Freetraders: Gould, Pulsford, -Millan, Walker and Gray. Protectionist: O'Connor.-*. The returns from the other colonies are not yet to hand. . MELBOURNE, March" 29.
