NEW WHAU.

The manager (Mr J. Jobe) reports: "The rise being carried upon the' junction of the new leader and the main reef has attained a-height ot 18ft, sft having been risen lor the week. Stoping operations oil -the leader from the rise have also been proceeded with as usual. The ore being broken from the leader is still of a dark nature and continues to show the best indications for a remunerative run of ore being unearthed. The sandstone encasing the ore bodies here is much tighter than that i'or,merly met with, but is of a good description. The drive on the course of the main reef above the No. 2 level has been advanced v further distance of 6ft. The reef is becoming smaller

Jiere, and the improvement, in it mentioned last week is due to a slide in the reel This slide has just been met with in the face when stripping the lode, and when I take down the reef I hope to be able to report -more favorably, as on former , occasions when these slides were found in the reef the ore body generally produced a little picked stone. I was not able to commence crushing during the week as I expected, owing to the battery not being available, but will probably make a start about the middle of the coming week.
