RETURNING SOLDIERS.
:', • ALBANY, December 30. Arrived: Orient, with 958 soldiers returning to the various colonies, including 5 New Zealand officers and 103 men. : WELLINGTON, December 30. M. Ward has received information of the arrival of the Orient at Albany, with 98 returning New Zealand troopers aboard. The message also contains the sad news lhat Trooper J. Salter, fourth contingent, hid "fallen overboard and been drowned. Salter hailed from Otago, and his parents reside at Casey's Bay, near Port Chalmers. Having ascertained that_ihe owners of the Orient are agreeable to allow her to come -to New Zealand, Mr." Ward has . cabled instructions for the troops to come on by her and disembark at Dunedin.
