THE GOLD-DREDGING INDUSTRY.
A somewhat serious difficulty (says "the Post) is in, prospect for the dredging industry, due to the rapidity with which companies have been' floated. lince the beginning of the year over >, hundred new dredging companies have been floated, and the .trouble ,vill arise in procuring dredges withn a reasonable. time. As matters low stand it is almost impossible to £et delivery of the dredges ordered in. he time specified owing to the delays if obtaining from England the requisite machinery. The foundries in the colony that build dredges are in full •.vork, and, although under pressure a 'little more could be accomplished,* it would be at a substantial increase in. nrices. It seems to be inevitable that here will be increasing delay in obr taining dredges; if so, there will be Teat difficulty in complying with the •.tuning regulations.- Under such circumstances it is not too much to hope that the Government will-relax the conditions to enable the comoanies to overcome those. difficulties.
