TREACHERY OF THE BOERS
The British losses at Driefontei were mostly caused by treachery on th part of the Boers. The enemy backei from the British artillery, and wer< Hearing the open ground, and whei the mounted infantry appeared 01 the flank ready to pursue a larg' company of Boers displayed a whit' flag, and threw down their guns an<" threw up their arms in token of sui render. The British advanced whereupon the Boers fired repeate< volleys at them, and wounded a< num bef of officers and men. Lord Kob crts and his staff, watching throug 1 glasses], were eye-witnesses of thi; treachery, and Lord Roberts gave or ders .that if such action were repeated the troops Bhould disregard the whib flag during action:
