The Police Commission.
(Per Press Association.)
Ciiristchcrch, April 20. At the Police Commission Messrs
I Taylor, Robson, and Hoddinot gave [evidence that they saw Constables Mackenzie and Barnett while on duty about midnight on August 12th enter an hotel and stay there half-an-hour. Then a man came to the door and looked up and down the street and signalled to them that they could leave. At the corner of High street they met Detectives Benjamin and Fitzgerald, and the constable denied being in the hotel, and the licensee and barman corrobated them, but said that two men in cloaks like constables went in and asked for beds. Detective Fitzgerald said he met the constables about midnight, but separately and not together that night. The watchman also said he saw two men come out whom he at first took for constables.
