A Serious Charge.
STATEMENT BY A MOTHER,
SUSPICIOUS DEATH OF AN
INFANT.
Invercaroill, April 20. A woman named Emily Rolfe, who is now on remand on a charge of concealment of birth, told the police that she threw her infant into the Puni Greek, a small stream running through the town, Search has been made there since Sunday, but the woman's statement being doubted, the police at Kiverton—where she had been living —searched that district, with the result that yesterday the remains of an infant were found in a paddock about two miles from the township. Little but the skeleton was found, the animals having eaten the flesh. The woman.says she gave birth to a child on the Ist of April, but whether that tound is hers or not has yet to be proved.
