PROBABLE SURPLUS OF
£101,000,
PHENOMENAL TRAFFIC AT
EASTER.
(Per Press Association.)
Wellington, April 20,
The Minister of Railways estimates that his surplus will be nearer £101,000 than the £90,000 originally anticipated and the percentage will be much the dame as last year—£33lo. Notwith standing the large number of new trucks and waggons put on the lines, the Department is still hampered by the want of rolling stock, Seventy waggons are lying at .Addington waiting to be fitted with new drawgear, and a further consignment is under construction. The Minister reckons that there is work enough to keep all the railway shops going for two years. The Easter traffic was the heaviest known, and the receipts are expected to to be phenomenal.
