Being in a minority of 149 the Englishmen had to follow on, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had lost one wicket for 7 runs.
Wainwright and Briggs commenced batting at a quarter to six to the bowling of Howell and Jones, The light was extremely bad owing to the smoke.
Wainwright, after making a couple, was splendidly caught by McLeod. Ranji, when questioned on th« subject of the Englishmen's play, said he saw no excuse for the poor stand they made this time. Their play was not what it ought to be.
The attendance to-day numbered fifteen thousand, and the cash taken is £678.
/Hill was presented by the President of the Cricket Association with a trophy.
