TYPHOID FEVER.

During the past fortnight fourteen cases of typhoid fever have hjen admitted to the Auckland Hospital.

PICK-POCKETS AT TAKAPUNA KACES.

Pick-pockets, it appears, were plying their calling in a very active manner at the Takapuna racecourse on Saturday. It is stated that one person was eased of £15, and another of £9;" while a Tairua resident i* reported to have had his pocket book stolen, containing coin and cheques to the value of £80.

HIKTTBANGI COAL COMPANY.

At the annual meeting of the Hikurangi Coal Company yesterday a very gratifying state of affairs was laid before the shareholders, notwithstanding the fact that the reduced price of coal has been in force during the past year. The Hon. E. Mitchelson and Mr P. Jagger were re-elected directors, and Mr B. S. Isaacs auditor. A dividend for the past six months at the rate of ten per cent, per annum is now payable.

THE ATHLETIC TEAM,

A slight alteration has taken place in the personnel of the athletic' team to represent Auckland at the Wanganui Championship Mooting. S. Davis replaces W. C. Speight as manager of the team, and J. Dickey ins cad of F. H. Creamer in the walking events. The team leaves next Monday by the s.s, Takapuna.

Hudson's Surprise Party opened to an excellent house last night, and received a most enthusiastic reception, the audience being thoroughly satisfied with the entertainment provided by this talented company.
