The steamer Mataura has been totally lost near the Magellan straits.

Fifteen of the crew were saved, and the remainder are probably safe.

I Wellington, January 28. THE CARGO. The Mataura's cargo from various ports includes 30,000 carcases of meat, 1200 casks of tallow, 18,000 bales of wool, and a large quantity of dairy produce. c The Mataura (Captain Millward) left here on December 21st.. The Wellington cargo was 9063 bales of wool and skins, 223 casks of tallow, 3000 carcases of mutton, 218 lambs, and 900 cases of meats. THE PASSENGERS.

I The Mataura only had three passengers, all from Dunedin : Mrs A. J. Park, Miss Kate Park, and Mr T, Mill, son of the well "known stevedore at Port Chalmers- There were about 60 on board all told.
