The Premier at Dannevirke.

(Per Press Association.)

Dannevikke, March 29,

The Premier, speaking at a banquet tendered to Mr Hall, said the second session would meet not later than the second week in October. A Bill granting supplies for public works and ordinary revenue was to have precedence at the short session but the question of granting additional supplies for sending troops of Maoris and riflemen to England was to be submitted as an open question for the approval of Parliament He said there were certain questions, affecting the colony which he would inquire into when at home, and he mentioned that freights and shipping arrangements required attention, as New Zealand was paying much higher rates than Australia, The Premier urged that local bodies should endeavor to move in the direction of obtaining their money at a cheaper rate. Referring to land for settlement he said there were some large absentee land owners who might with advantage both to themselves and their districts dispose of their estates voluntarily. The Government were willing to pay a fair price and while they did not wish to be arbitrary the effect must be given according to the wish of Parliament. On conclusion the Premier was enthusiastically applauded.
