The- No. 2 reef has been driven through and proves to be sft in thickness, but somewhat broken up. It is not the intention to commence developing this lode at present, so that the crosscut will be steadily driven ahead. The crosscut to intercept the Rimu reef is passing through a very hard clans of country.

WTAIHI-SILVERTON. The Silverton lode has been cut in the No. 2 crosscut, and prove? to be four feet wide. It is of low grade where : intersected, the average assay value tjeing a little over £1 per ton. In a southerly direction the No. 2 reef has widened out to 8 feet, and the average assay value proves to be 30s I per ton, It is now intended to sink another 100 ft to test the value of the ore lower dowu.

Auckland, March 24. PKOGKESS CASTLE ROCK. The result of a trial parcel of scwt of. ore from the Progress Castle Rock treated at the Thames School of Mines yiblded 28ozb 6dwts 22grs of bullion valued at £75 lls Bd. This represents asaving of 97 per cent of the assay value.

GREAT BARRIER. I Arrangements have been made for an almost daily communication Letween , Auckland and the Great Barrier; by carrier pigeons service. About ia dozen pigeon are to be sent to the Barrier by each steamer from Auckland.

Board, Victoria Arcade! and has attracted an amount of attention, jewellers having already offered to purchase seme of the opals. Arrangements have been made with a developing syndicate in London to take over the above propet ties for 12 months on a working option, with a view to ultimate purchase. In order to simplify matters in the colony, it has been arranged by the directors of the three companies, subject to confirmation by their respective shareholders to form them into one company, which will be done forthwith. The terms of formation for this new local company are that it is to consist of 120,000 Bhares, of which each of the three companies concerned is to receive 35,000 shares. The new company will start with sufficient funds in hand for all its requirements for 12 months. The combined aiea is a very favorable one for systematic development, being situated on the Waitaia rarge, ard extending from the Maori Dream and Mountain Flower on the north to the Lincoln and Mount Aurum on the south, and being bounded on the west by the Golden Link, Kuaotunu and Midas. The management in Auckland will be retained by Mr W. H. Churtoc, who is at present manager for the Premier and Superb.
