MINING NEWS.
SHERIDAN (Tapu).
The low level crosscut still continues to enter upon a favourable channel of country, and very fair progress continues to be made,
BROKEN HILL. The Anglo-Continental Company has let a contract for another 200 ft of driving upon the course of the main reef. The work being carried out will give the loda a thorough prospecting. MOANATAIARI. Excellent progress has been made with the works to connect the No. 3 Caledonian level with the No. 4 level. The draining of the water from the shaft is being successfully passed off to the former level, thus enabling the work of development to be carried out expeditious)}'. The main tunnel level ija operation is now penetrating a more congenial cla&s of country, which allows of much speedier progress being effected.
| CLUB. Very good progress is being made with the advancement of the drive upon the course of the reef at the No. 1 level, but latterly a poor description of country has been iaet with on the hangingwall, vhich is very much dis-, turbtd in character, and in consequence]
of this unsettled state the lode has diminished very much in size. The manager, however, anticipates an improvement as the work advances. With the object of determining this lode's correct value and character, it has been decided that a lower level must be driven to intersect the quartz body at a point where more solid country will be met with. It will also enable operations to be conducted in any direction.
GOLDEN BAND (Tapu). Excellent progress is being effected with this company's low level crosscut and latterly a most favourable class of country has been entered upon, in fact the manager says that he has never saen a better description of country for gold. A very promising leader has been passed through containing good minerals. According to the bearings of this, and the large reef met with on the surface there is every probability of their forming a junction about 40 feet to the south of the crosscut, when there is every promise of something of an auriferous character coming to hand, especially if this present good class of country continues for.yard to the lodes. The low level has attained a total length of 133 feet since commencing. -It will thus be seen that tho work in hand has so far advanced a considerable length.
