Beard of Education.

The last meeting of the Education Board,as at present constituted, wag hektywsterday. , ■< It -Was reported that two errors had been discovered in the list of votes recorded at the late election of three members. The correct totals of the three successful candidates are:— Wessr* J. Muir, 141 ; J. R. Beed, 140; E. Hobbs.l3B. The names of Messrs C. Bishopnck, H. B. Wilson, Ch Wilson, J. D. We j Naughton, C. Philips, and C. A. Semahdeni, were chosen for submission to the Aratapu school committee, from which to select a headmaster. It was decided to send the following ten names out of the thirty-three candidates who applied for the headmastership of the Onehuaga School to the Onehunga Committee :—-Messrs F. J. Ohlson (Dl), E. X Mulgan (M.A.), W. H. Mclntosh (Dl), F. P. Burton (B.A.V T. Wilson (Dl), P. E. Stevens (Dl), W. H. Newton (Dl), CX Thwaites (Dl), T. H. Chapman (Dl), and J. Fisher (Dl); A deputation from the Pohsonby School Committeewaited on the Board to discuss the question of school accommodation in the Ponsouby district. The Board decided to enlarge the Bayfield school, and increase the accommo dation at Eichmond Eoad school by. removing a partition. [ The Minister of Iducation wrote appoving of the alterations in the fcholarship regulations recently made by the Board. It was decided to forward copies ofthe amended regulations to head teachers. ; | 'J he Bchemo Mr Wright brought forward for the betterment of the condition of the head teachers under the j Board, canie on for discussion. The ( Chairman said the adoption of the j scheme' tfrould mean an increased ex- , pendituie of £2360 per year. Mr Luke | was in favor of increasing the teachers j salaries by all means, but was not in ] favour of increasing the country j teachers' salaries at the expense of the ( town teachers. The Chairman said it. appeared that Mr Wright had taken his figures from incorrect data, and j asked him if he would not bring the ( matter forward again at some future date. Mr Wright said he was only , actuated by feelings of compassion to-1 wardrihe country teachers in bringing forward the scheme. After some discussion the matter was allowed to drop, and Mr Wright withdrew his motion for the adoption of the scheme.
