ANOTHER PROCESS.
Ajtropos of the treatment of slimes and tailings by the cyanide and chlorination processes, Mr Griffiths, representing a powerful syndicate, arrived in Wellington from Sydney in the Mararoa with the Hon Mr Seddon. Mr Griffiths will proceed to the West Coast with a view of establishing works on those goldfields, his company being under the impression that the auriferous black sand on the beaches down there can be profitably treated. Under this process a yield of four pennyweights of gold to tha ton would pay good dividends. It is claimed that the difficulty in treating tailings containing arsenic and sulphur, which baffled the various cyanide processes, has btsen overcome by this new process. It is farther claimed that the process is especially applicable to the successful working of tailings and. slimes from the quartz mines at Reefton. The erection of the necessary vats, agitators, machinery, <kc , where water power is available, costs not more that £150, and one man can look after several vats and agitators, and the totsl expense per* ton does nob exceed 2s 6d.
