'i he Hon. Mr Cadman inspected the new building for the School of Mine > in Waihi. It cost 12s which allowing iinother .£IOO for the furniture and material aj^fe lutely required at the cominnncenjßt, makes some .£3(30 needed to start the insti. tiononits logs. Mr Cadman promised a subsidy of .£IBO, to be paid, as regards half of the cost of the building-, as soon as it is passed, and as regards the balince on receipt of a Toucher for the goo is. T Te said that if Waitokanri could start a similar school, Government might also see their way to help in paying a teacher, but they could not afford independent teachers for everyplace Mr Cadman gave some very practical suggestions as to going steadily from the start, not trying to do too much at once, and making the teaching interesting as well as instructive.
With regaid to a railway connecting Waihi with Paero.i, Mr Cadnvin statei in the former township ou Monday last that plans and estimates in connection with the work had been ordered. If Purliamtnt decided on providing the funds, the country had certainly the first right to construct the line. If, however, Parliament refu.-ed the money, he certainly thought the Government ought not to stand in the way of private people doing the work. In connection* with the Paerot-Tlnmes railway, men are engaged erecting bridges across the various creeks and swamps between I'aeroa and Hikntain, and it is expected if the weat'ier is anything like decent good progress will be made.
