SILAS (Puru).
The work of locating the various lodes traversing this company's mine is progressing most encouragingly, although nothing of any importance has been seen. The lodes so far uncovered are of a promising nature, and the managei* is sanguine that .they will eventually produce ore of ft good value. A start has been made to drive a crosscut to intersect one of the series, which shows excellent indications. The quartz contains a good class of minerals, and should improve as depth is attained. The manager estimates intersecting this quartz body in about 90 feet of driving. MAY QUEEN EXTENDED.
The drive upon the course of the new reef eastward from the exploring crosscut in the Onehunga section oi the company's property continues to open up a lode of a very promising character. A splendid description oi country is being entered upon, and an improvement may be evidenced as the work advances in the direction of the crossflints. At the last breaking down colors of gold were seen through the ore, and the manager is more than pleased with the surrouuding indications. ALPHA. Mr Quentin A. McCounell, representative of the London and New Zealand Finance Corporation, Limited, has just paid a visit of inspection to the Alpha property at Waitekauri and is very pleased with the prospects obtaintainable. The new reef recently intersected was inspected, and Mr McCounell took from it, as well as from other sections of the mine, several parcels of ore for testing purposes, and should the results prove satisfactory, the company he repiesents will immediately proceed with the development of the property. Mr McConnell has no doubt as to the genuineness of the Alpha as a bullionproducer, and if this opinion, formed during his visit is strengthened by the tests about to be made of the stone he purposes commencing a new level adout 300 feet lower than any of the j adits yet driven. This level will iutersect'ull the lodes at present known to exist, whilst in its progress it should also reveal other ore bodies traversing the company's property, A considerable height of backs will then be available on the lode, and this fact is greatly in favour of the property, as every facility seems to be afforded for cheap mining, and Mr McConnell says there should be no difficulty in the way of successfully treating the ores.
