There was a heavy flood in the Takaka river, aud, the bank of the river giving way, the water rushed down the main streets, and the hop gardens iv the vicinity were much damaged. A lad named llobertson was trying to cross the Motapipi river, near Takaka, when the horse and cart were swept down the stream and carried out to sea, but Robertson was rescued with difficulty. A strong wind sprang up this afternoon at Takaka, further damaging the j hop gardens. I
