Breaches of the Law.
Chbistchurch, March 9.
At the S.M. Court this morning several persons were fined various sums for breaches of the Factories' and Shop Assistants' Acts. A. J. Kelly, licensee of the Islington Arms' hotel, was charged with having kept spirits for sale containing more water than allowed by law. The magistrate said the offence appeared insignificant, though defined by the Act as adulteration." Putting a little too much waterin liquor was very different from introducing deleterious ingredients. Kelly was fined 5s and costs 28s.
